The year 1907 became an important year in the
life of the Andrew Cameron family.
In the spring Andrew and Martha, with their seven children
packed their belongings and left England. Andrew was 49 years old and
Martha was 44 years old. On March 29, 1907 they sailed from Liverpool
on the ship Virginian of the Allan Line and arrived in Halifax, Canada
on April 6, 1907.

Andrew (Andy), William (Bill), Hector Macdonald
Before they left England,
they had been told to have a good meal, as it would be a long time
before they got another decent meal. Agnes (Nancy) was the darling
of the ship. Marion (Minnie) told these stories to her daughter Ruth.
They traveled by Canadian Pacific Railroad to Winnipeg and then to
Brookdale, Manitoba. Alexander and Marion Smith met them there and
took them to their farm. Alexander had come to Canada in 1903 and
had rented Sec. 20, Twp. 13, Rg. 16, W1 near Brookdale. Marion and
the family came the next year. My father, Hector remembers coming
to the farm by sleigh and horses. |
