Hector & Olive Cameron - March 3, 1980

Hector & Olive Cameron

The children of Hector and Olive grew up on the farm. They attended the school in Moore Park. During the winter they were driven to school in a van behind a pair of horses and during the summer months it was a similar van with wheels instead of runners. They were not idle when at home from school – they had work to do. They milked the cows, fed the chickens, brought wood into the house and carried buckets of snow in to be melted. In the evening they often took turns at washing the dishes and then did their homework by the light of a coal-oil lamp. On a Saturday morning it was the responsibility of the girls to do the baking and clean the house. The boys would be out doing the chores – feeding the cattle, hauling hay and straw for the barn. During the summer the boys helped with the fieldwork.

There was still time for fun. With five active children one could always find games to play. As teenagers they rode their bicycles to visit with friends and at sixteen they were allowed to drive the car. In the summer there were softball games and the winter was spent skating and curling. Often a slough was cleared of snow and a skating rink made. Each of the children, I am sure, can remember a new car or truck, going to Grandma and Grandpa Grant’s for Christmas, all crowded into the cab of a new truck, the first airplane ride.

Donald Grant married Joyce Kingdon on July 6, 1957. They farmed the N ½ of 17-13-17. They have three children – Cheryl Dawn, Kevin Robert and Kenneth Hector.

Niel Douglas attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Marianne McKay on May 31, 1957. They settled in Toronto where Niel had an engineering business and Marianne taught school. They have three boys – Douglas John, Scot Donald and Bruce Neil.

Elaine Margaret went to Brandon College and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree. A few years latter she went to the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She married James McCrorie on May 23, 1964. They settled in Regina, Saskatchewan. James taught at the University of Regina and Elaine worked in the Emergency Department of the Plains Health Center. They have three children – Aaron James, Ann Kathryn and Ian Cameron.

Jean Evelyn took her nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital. She worked in pediatrics at Madison, Wisconsin while Leo was studying. She married Leo Kristjanson and settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Leo taught at the University of Saskatchewan. They retired to Gimli, Manitoba. They have four children – Terri Elin, Darryl Cameron, Brenda Jean and Johanne Alda.

Muriel Irene died of pneumonia at 2 months of age, on Sept.17, 1937

Hector Sinclair married Leonora Instance on July 20, 1966. They live on the home farm. They have three boys – Melville Ernest , Richard Hector and Thomas Andrew.
